What is CBD?
Cannabidiol (CBD) is one of a group of compounds (phytocannabinoids) that comes from the Cannabis sativa plant, also known as cannabis or hemp. Many of these Cannabis compounds have shown potential benefits, but CBD is one of the largest chemical constituents of this group and has been shown to hold great promise in human and veterinary medicine.
Is CBD legal in my state?
Unlike marijuana, hemp is legal in all 50 states. The 2018 Farm Bill, passed by congress and signed by the president, further clarified the legality of hemp. It’s perfectly legal to buy and possess CBD oil as long as it’s obtained from hemp and has less than 0.3% THC.
Can CBD get my dog high?
The psychoactive effect or “high” from cannabis is produced from THC, the psychoactive compound, rather than CBD. When CBD is extracted from hemp plants with less than 0.3% (such as our CBD), it does not produce a high.
So no, CBD alone won’t make your pet “high”, but always make sure to look at the THC content of a product before giving it to your pet.
Why is CBD safe and beneficial for my dog, but THC is bad for my dog?
Veterinarians have found that small amounts of THC can prove harmful to them. Researchers have observed that THC has a more dramatic and profound effect on dogs than on humans.
On the other hand, no adverse effects (except for slight drowsiness) have been observed when administering large quantities of CBD to dogs.
How can CBD treat my dog?
Research on CBD is still an ongoing process, but the current data shows its effectiveness for conditions including the following:
- Promotes a sense of calmness
- Alleviation of behavioral disorders
- Alleviation of joint-pain symptoms
- Supports the immune system
- Powerful anti-inflammatory
Can my dog overdose on CBD?
The short answer? No. While it is possible to give your pet more CBD than is beneficial, the most typical side effect your pet may experience is drowsiness. So if you want CBD to work properly for your pet, don’t overdo it.
